Italian and Venetian Plaster
The term “Italian plaster” and
"Venetian plaster" has been applied to a wide range
of materials, including paint-like and synthetic coatings.
While some of these products may simulate the appearance of
Venetian plaster, they do not share the luster or durability
of an authentic Venetian plaster. For this site, I will use
the term Italian plaster for use only when referring to products
which contain aged slaked lime, integral pigments, and marble
dust.
In addition, there are different brands
of plaster have their own name for their finishes, so it gets
very confusing. Most people mean the smooth plaster when they
Venetian, however, there are many different kinds of "Venetian"
plaster. There is plaster with interest (such as Mantovano),
a rougher surface, layers of rough and smooth surfaces (Aquarello),
and wax on top of the plaster, which can add color and shine
(Stucco Romano). All these plasters are made of slaked lime
and marble dust, but the application makes it look different.
There are many kinds, so don't just go for
the first one you see, have me show you all the different
kinds of gorgeous plasters there are to make your walls beautiful!
